Over the past few months, several local MPs have visited our early learning centres. During their visits, they got the chance to:
- See our centres in action
- Join activities with the children
- Learn how we're supporting families and communities
- See how we've used government grants to upgrade our spaces
Read more about these exciting visits below.
Luba Grigorovitch visits Kororoit Creek YMCA services
Last December, Luba Grigorovitch MP visited our Kororoit Creek YMCA services in Burnside Heights. This included our early learning centre, OSHC program and Kingswim swim school.
Since 2022, the Victorian Government’s Building Blocks Grants program has provided our early learning centres with $2.23 million in funding. At Kororoit Creek alone, we’ve used a $97,000 minor infrastructure grant to upgrade our outdoor play spaces with:
- New shade
- Landscaping
- A cubby
- Shop fronts
- A musical wall
This will give the children more places to explore, play and learn.
Mathew Hilakari visits Point Cook Early Learning Centre
In March this year, Mathew Hilakari MP came to see the upgraded outdoor learning space at Point Cook Early Learning Centre. We were able to make the space more inclusive for children of all abilities thanks to the Victorian Government Building Blocks Inclusion Grant.
Mathew also took part in a cooking activity with the kinder children, while we shared what’s next for our centre: a kitchen upgrade that will support both our early learning and OSHC program. The upgrade will make it easier for children to participate in cooking, from picking ingredients in the garden to helping with safe food prep.
Dylan Wight visits Tarneit Early Learning Centre
Dylan Wight MP visited our Tarneit Early Learning Centre in March. We showed him around the centre and told him all about the children and families we support every day.
In a growing area like Tarneit, centres like ours quickly become a part of family life. We help give children a strong start while being a trusted support for parents.
John Lister visits Wyndham Vale Early Learning Centre
We welcomed John Lister MP to our Wyndham Vale Early Learning Centre back in March this year.
John toured the centre, joined a Welcome to Country, took part in a gardening experience, and shared morning tea with the children and team. He also spent time chatting with the children about their favourite animals and what jobs they would like to have when they grow up.
We also took the opportunity to thank the Victorian Government for funding that helped us upgrade the Wyndham Vale playground with new shade sails, grass and other yard improvements.
Lauren Kathage visits Mernda Early Learning Centre
Last month, Lauren Kathage MP visited our Mernda Early Learning Centre. This centre is an important community asset, where we help children grow in confidence and form trusted relationships with families.
Lauren learnt how we’ve applied the Victorian Government’s Building Blocks Inclusion Grant funding. We also showed her how we embed First Nations culture in the daily learning environment.
After spending time with us, Lauren described our centre as a “hidden gem”!
